🌡️ Temperature

•Ideal daytime temp: 80–90°F (27–32°C)

•Night drop: Down to 75°F is fine

•They really prefer the warmer end compared to Ghost Mantises and Giant Asians

💧 Humidity

•60–80% humidity

•Mist lightly once daily.

•Provide good ventilation to prevent fungal issues (especially for young nymphs).

🏠 Enclosure

•Size: At least 3× body length tall, 2× wide.

•Young nymphs (L1–L3): 16–32oz cup

•Adults: 8×8×12” enclosure or larger

•Vertical space is crucial for safe molting.

✔️ Best Elements

•Fine mesh or natural sticks for climbing

•Fake flowers or branches

•Paper towel or coco fiber substrate

•Bright lighting (they like a well-lit environment)

Note: They don’t need live plants for survival—just climbing surfaces.

Ideal feeder insects

•Fruit flies (D. hydei) for small nymphs

•Houseflies / blue bottle flies for juveniles

•Hoverflies if available

•Small roaches or crickets sparingly (flies are preferred)

Feeding schedule

•L1–L3: Every 1–2 days

•L4–Adult: Every 2 days

•Adult females: Eat more; feed until they refuse

They are notorious for refusing prey that doesn’t move enough.

🦋 Molting

Orchid mantises are more prone to molting issues than many species.

To prevent molt problems:

•Keep humidity in the 70–80% range during premolt

•Ensure strong vertical surfaces

•Avoid handling for at least 48 hours before and after a molt

Signs of premolt:

•Stops eating

•Darkening/opaque colors

•Swollen abdomen around the segments

🤲 Handling

•Very delicate—avoid frequent handling.

•If needed, let them walk onto you; never grab.

•Young nymphs are extremely fragile.

🧼 Cleaning

•Spot clean weekly

•Remove uneaten prey quickly

•Full clean every 3–4 weeks

🌱 Lifespan

•Females: ~11-16 months

•Males: ~8-12 months ( shorter; they mature faster)
